The Tambov region is a part of Central federal district which borders on Lipetsk, Saratov, Ryazan, Penza, and Voronezh regions.
Tambov is an administrative center of the region. Such cities as Kirsanov, Kotovsk, Michurinsk, Morshansk, Rasskazovo and Uvarovo rank among large cities of Tambov region.
Consumer and food processing industry, as well as chemical industry and mechanic engineering are developed in Tambov region. The agriculture is also being successfully developed here.
Voroninsky state wildlife preservation is located on Vorona River, the most beautiful river of Tambov region. This natural park was founded in 1994. The woods occupy 77.2% of its territory. Many plants listed in the Red Book may be met here. This is Helmet Orchis, Bulbocodium versssicolor, Fritillary Ruthenia, feather grass pinnate. Some inhabitants are also included in the Red Book, for example: emperor dragonfly (Anax imperator), Eurasian eagle (Bubo bubo), black apollo (Parnassius mnemosyne).
Tatar Wall, one of sights of Tambov region, is a monument of nature and history. This earth wall was raised in the 17th century at the order of Feodor Nakvasin, and was constructed by peasants and military.
One more place of interest of Tambov region is Zagryazhsky-Stroganov's estate located in Znamenka village. Natalia Goncharova (future wife of the Great Russian poet Alexander Pushkin) was born here in 1812. The building of this manor was constructed at the beginning of the 18th century. The two-storeyed manor is surrounded by fine park. The only in Russia museum devoted to Natalia Goncharova is located in the estate.
